Blitzen

We finally, after 6 months, bought a car (2007 VW Passat Diesel Wagon). It’s name is Blitzen.

Luzern

Went to Luzern yesterday. About 1.5 hours from our place, though the trip seemed quicker on the way there, and longer on the way back (probably because we were tired and because the view from the train isn’t as interesting to Alex at night). For some reason, it reminded me of Japan. I think it was the lake with the mountains in the background, and a monument/temple that was slightly up the hill to the right with a gift shop on its left. Dina claims it was due to all the Japanese tourists.

Highlights

  • Had stereotypical fondue and rösti for supper and lunch respectively.
  • The Bourbaki Panorama was stunningly neat… though Dina and Alex don’t necessarily agree with me.
  • In the Glacier Garden Alex was the stereotype of a toddler in a mirror maze. Eventually he taught himself the hard way that he shouldn’t run. The other tourists in the maze laughing at him hurt his pride too and he sulked pretty explicitly. The maze itself was pretty impressive. Made to look like Alhambra.

  • The Musegg Wall is definitely not stroller-friendly. Thankfully, my knee held up.

  • The rest of the town was nice. View of the Alps. A lot of murals. Cute covered bridges. Eating outside… something that we seem to do a lot of here in Switzerland… it’s nice to eat while Alex runs around whatever square we’re in.

Words you hope you never have to use:

Stop him dear! He’s going to crap on the carpet!

International Relations

I’m always tempted to yell “Yankees suck!” when I see someone wearing New York Yankees gear over here. Dina notes, probably correctly, that they’d just look at me blankly / as if I were crazy.
