- Alex is doing all sorts of cool things. I’m just too tired to blog about them because one of the un-cool things he does is not sleep properly. I’m also tired from the new job.
- I think we’re going to skip Fall Challenge Weekend. Managing dancing + Alex is just too much. The out-of-towners we normally look forward to seeing are either not coming or we’ll be seeing them around that time for other reasons. It’s sad. We’re now ‘those people’. sigh.
Recruiters
Recruiters have been cold-calling me at work. If you have my work phone number but can’t figure out my email address (either work or home), I don’t want to talk to you. After the 3rd call where they wouldn’t take ‘no’ or ‘no-comment’ for an answer, the following exchange occurred. I have another idea for next time too.
Recruiter: How long have you been working at VistaPrint?
Nick: Uhm… 14½ years.
Recruiter: Wow, that’s a long time. You must like it there. What are you working on?
Nick: Genetically engineering trees to produce more paper.
The Reality Dialog Box
Background: We have a dialog box that some of our users ignore. We really don’t want them to ignore that dialog box.
From an email, edited and paraphrased as necessary:
We have a label print out on the label printer that says something like:
This is a special order! Joe Employee, please make sure you've followed the special order procedure. [barcode]
The employee has to scan the barcode before the computer allows the next step in the special order procedure happens.
