A lot of electric / electronic (what’s the difference anyway?) equipment has warnings about not wetting / washing / immersing. Through not-so-careful experimentation, I’ve learned that many of those warnings can be ignored. As long as you remove power (unplug or remove batteries) and dry thoroughly before reapplying power everything seems to go well. That said, I’m not going to wash my laptop any time soon.
- Keyboards, dismantled, will survive both the sink and the dishwasher. Why wash a keyboard? Because keyboards are disgusting.
- Espresso makers can be hosed down with the kitchen sink sprayer.
- Surprisingly, both our toaster and our blender have survived the dishwasher.
- Shame on LeapFrog for making an activity table that isn’t baby-puke proof. We thought Alex ruined his by being sick all over it. We just needed to dismantle it to get the puke out of all the nooks and cranny’s and give it a once-over with a hair dryer to make sure it dried properly.
I’m sure I’ve washed other stuff that generally shouldn’t be. I keep telling Dina that if we ever design our own house, both the kitchen and bathroom should have a hose, drains in the floor, and waterproof cabinets for ease of washing. It’s a rare cleaning task that doesn’t benefit from an abundance of water.

We’re redoing our bathroom, but MWW doesn’t like my idea of SS panels on the floor/walls with a drain in the floor. I think it’s a woman thing.
seriously, a toaster and a blender?
