Maid In Crazyland

Photograph: Columns at night, Luxor temple, 2005-10-04, © Nick Varacalli. We’re having a maid come in to clean our place for the first time tomorrow.

  1. She came by today to set the price, about ¼ of what Merry Maids wanted to charge.
  2. She was a thin twenty-something. I was very disappointed as I had a mental image of Rosario.
  3. Dina’s laughed at my ongoing attempts to refrain from tidying and cleaning the place before tomorrow.
  4. I feel I’ll make her uncomfortable by watching her every move, not because I don’t trust her, but because I want to learn from a professional.

Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back

Photograph: Old Winter Palace sunset, Luxor, 2005-10-04, © Nick Varacalli.Had a yard sale a few weekends ago. It went quite well. Got rid of a bunch of crap and made a little bit of money. Met a lot of nice people and interesting characters.

One was a nice old man who wrote us a $2 cheque for something or other. He assured us he was good for it, being a retired MA Supreme Court judge. Needless to say, we received the bounce notification from our bank today.

It’s interesting / humourous / sad to think that the $2 cheque caused his account to be overdrawn, even though I realize that it was probably another transaction that did his account in.
