Usability

My original cable modem provider was MediaOne. Due to copyright problems, they became ATT Broadband Internet (ATTBI). ATTBI is being bought by ComCast. What do I care? I have an email address at my provider that I use for subscription, newsletters, etc. This means that I have to go and change a bunch of addresses again.

A bunch of us with attbi addresses were discussing this at lunchActually, Dim Sum. mmm… one day. The problem is that MediaOne, ATTBI, and Comcast are all building brands around their company name. What they should have done from the start is build the brand around the product. It’s not “Proctor & Gamble Toothpaste”, it’s “Crest”. It shouldn’t be “ATT Broadband Internet”, it should be something like “Lightning Fast Internet”. That way the brand survives even if the company changes its name, they run into trademark issues, or they sell that division.

BTW, this is the difference between User Interface, and User Experience. No interfaces here. Just thinking about the user.

  1. [...] Have a new web host, dr2.net. Inexpensive, unlimited email accounts, decent amount of space and bandwidth. It’s not ASP.Net, so it’s time to learn PHP, MySQL, and a bunch of other technologies. It’s going to take a little while to get the dns crap sorted out, so if Dina and I are unresponsive for the next little while, you now know why. Now the web site should be immune to the next installation of the roadrunner–>mediaone–>attbi–>comcast–>??? debacle. [...]
